Evolution of BPR&D Jaipur

Central Detective Training Institutes are the outlying units of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi established with objective to improve the standard of crime investigation by familiarizing police investigating officers with the state of the technology in forensic science. Under the administrative control of BPR&D, Central Detective Training Institutes are established on the recommendations of Committee on Police Training (Gore Committee-1970) with a mandate to provide training to in service Police Officers to improve the standards of Crime Investigation in India by familiarizing the Police Officers with the various developments in Forensic Science. Currently, six CDTIs are functional under the department located at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ghaziabad, Jaipur and Bengaluru.

The Central Detective Training Institute, Jaipur (CDTI, Jaipur) is the 5th CDTI under BPR&D, established on 16th January, 2012 and inaugurated by then Director General, BPR&D Shri Vikram Srivastav, IPS with aim to impart training to the police officer of western states of the country. Initially it was functional from its temporary location at ‘Block A&B’, Kendriya Sadan Parisar, Sector 10, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Jaipur (Rajasthan) in spaces provided by CPWD. Running from the temporary location, the institute started imparting training to the in-service police officers during the year 2012 when the 1st course on “Interrogation Techniques” for one week duration from 27.08.2012 to 31.08.2012 was inaugurated by Sh. B. B. Sharma, then Director (Trg.), BPR&D.

‘The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony’ of the new campus of the institute was held on 16.01.2015 by Sh. Omendra Bharadwaj, IPS, then DGP of Rajasthan in presence of Sh. Rajan Gupta, IPS, then DG, BPR&D along with Sh. Abhay, IPS, then IG (Trg.). Initially it was known as Central Detective Training School, Jaipur and after change of the nomenclature “School” to “Institute” by MHA order dated 24.10.2017, now this is known as Central Detective Training Institute, Jaipur.

On 28th August, 2020, it got functional from its own campus at Dehmi Kalan, Ajmer Road, Jaipur (Rajasthan) when Shri G. Kishan Reddy, then Hon’ble Minister of State of Home Affairs virtually inaugurated the newly constructed campus of the institute on the occasion of the 50th Foundation Day of BPR&D. On this occasion a workshop on ‘Tourist Safety’ was conducted.
